Synopsis
Unarmed bodyguards accompany targets of political killers - partly around the clock. Founded was this life-important organisation by Mahatma Gandhi´s scretary as an peace army already in 1956 - but his concept of entering the battlefields of modern war with unarmed pacifists to stop fighting had soon to be given up again... Since the reorganisation of the Peace-brigades as an NGO in the beginning of the 80s has PBI been protecting people from the threat of death squadrons in Guatemala, Haiti, Timor El Salvador, Indonesia, Columbia and Mexiko - a new team is enteing nepal for the moment. In Columbia their work is now more then ever necessary - after 70 years of civil war, murder is the most common death-reason. More then 1000 persons „disappear“ every year - leaving their relatives in constant stress and thoughts - without even giving them a body for the funeral. Even from a organisation of relatives of those who are made to disappear - ASFADDES - have some members disappeared... Also here come Peace- brigadists into the field. Accompanying those threated - living their day with them - accompanying them to shops and work-places - even sleeping in their homes at night. Then miracously the death-squadrons stay away - the killers fear this “eye of the world”..
