Countries Mali
Duration 55 min
Synopsis
Demain à Nanguila is Ivens only film made in Africa, and it was one of the first films produced by the new Republic of Mali. Nanguila tells the story of a young man, Sidibe Moussa, who becomes involved in the work of irrigation in his local community, and thus participates in the task of post-colonial construction in Africa. Although this is a rather unknown film, in Mali the film was a big success. It went in a screening van around the country. For many people in the villages it was the first time they could see a film on a big screen. Sidibé who at first worked as translator for Ivens was asked by Ivens to play the main character. Moussa liked it so much that he later became one of the most famous filmmakers in the country.
