Synopsis
Returning to Holland Ivens pursued the theme of an international capitalist crisis of over-production. New Earth includes material shot for Zuiderzee and We are building, but very little was from that footage. This film is a record of the making of new farmland for Holland by dyking off some of Zyder Zee, and after the long years of labour, the growing of the first crops- men with their hands, their ships, their tools, their machines. The land is won. Then more work, more land. Till harvesting time, then the crashing of markets, the tumbling to pieces of world distribution. Man is defeated by his foolish ways.
