Indonesia Calling
Director Joris Ivens
Countries Australia
Duration 22 min
Synopsis
Ivens puts his resources at the service of the new Indonesian Government,
declared independent after the II World War, rather than at the
service of the Dutch Government, so Australia became the location
for this film, to record Australian support for the Indonesian Republic.
Political and technical conditions meant a return to the methods
of "Borinage"- use of Kinamo, semi-clandestinity, the attempt to
make agitational film. At the point, the navy crews of Sidney refused
to serve the ships sent to repress Indonesia. The Indonesian crews
went on strike and stopped the ships from leaving.
