The Mistral
Director Joris Ivens
Countries France
Duration 30 min
Synopsis
"The real mistral doesn’t blow there, however it’s the place where it
dies away. You can feel the struggle between two winds there- the
mistral and the tramontane. It is a battle line. Afterwords i met some
people, including a wine producer. I talked to them has we walked
around and I realised that the wind was important for those people;
It was concrete, it was real. I felt then that the wind was an excellent
theme for a documentary. Perhaps because it perpetually moves,
because it changes the colour of places, the atmosphere, people's
psychology... All Provence is dominated by it. Its architecture, its history,
its culture are impregnated with it. "(Joris Ivens interviewed in
"Cinema 64", 1964)
