Synopsis
Ivens made his first film at the age of 13, using members of his family as the cast, and shooting it around the family home in Nijmegen. His family business was photography, so he found in his father’s shop a white elephant- a professional Pathé cinema camera, wooden and hand-cranked that his father despaired of trying to sell to the citizens of Nijmegen. So with this camera he made those family films, and that was his first experiment with cinema.
