Synopsis
During the days in which Congada is presented, Ilhabela's black community offers an Afro Catholic Mass (mixture of candomble and catholic liturgies) and the Ucharia - a free meal served to the congueiros and the devotees of black Saint Benedict. In a 1526 letter, Dom Afonso I, king of Congo, asks Dom João III, king of Portugal, to send only wine and flour to their masses, and nothing else.
