Synopsis
Once a year, at 5pm on August the 1st, Warsaw, the capital of Poland, comes to a complete standstill. In a minute of silence, the city commemorates and pays homage to those who lost their lives in the Warsaw Uprising - one of the most tragic battles of World War II. In this film, 70 years later, we hear exclusive stories and searing, moving testimonies from those who are still alive to tell the tale - the insurgents who took part in the battle for Warsaw and the civilians who witnessed the heroic but ultimately futile 63-day-long struggle to free the city from five years of German occupation. The film is mainly built around some rare and unseen historical footage from Polish and German archives. It also contains the exclusive testimony of a 92-year-old RAF veteran. He tells how he and his crew risked their lives in an intrepid flight trying to help the Polish resistance in Warsaw.
