Synopsis
In 2003 it is 100 years ago the first western film, THE GREAT TRAIN ROBBERY, was made. It inspired Dutch filmmakers Peter Delpeut (FELICE…FELICE…, IN LOVING MEMORY) and Mart Dominicus (DE ZILVEREN PIJL) to a sentimental journey in search of the remains of the once so powerful genre. GO WEST, YOUNG MAN! is a cinematographic road movie along the icons of the western. Guided by their beloved genre the two directors travel through the American West. What they find are the leftovers of a fading tradition. They visit old paintless film sets and meet craftsmen who live in the knowledge that their skills (wrangling, horse falls) will disappear in the years to come. They call upon famous locations in which they still sense the dramatic force that shaped the classics of the genre: the Grand Tetons which were the awesome backdrop for SHANE and of course Monument Valley, home of many John Ford westerns.
