“If we feel good in a place, we bet on who we are, if we don’t feel good we are forced to go, away”., That’s why I decided to go away, to take a trip and break for a while my rapport, with everyday life. Leaving San Pietro, my small island in the Mediterranean Sea., My journey started in Brazil and should have gone on to other countries in Latin America, but in, Brazil it started and in Brazil it stopped., I was to meet a friend who lived in Capão and I barely knew where it was, to the north east in the, state of Bahia, 500 km inland from Salvador. That was all., Getting there I walked into an enchanted valley, an immensly powerful geographic microcosm, a, place of lush and nurturing nature that in the past 30 years had become a crossroad of bizarre, lives: half of them on the run from other places, places from all over the world. The other half,, born there, remaining by choice and proudly awaiting its destiny., An uncertain destiny, suspended between impending change and a sense of belonging, struggling to remain anchored to the old ways, between being open and closed to an outside, word talking more and more loud and clear – TV. Between electric light arrived only a few years, ago and starry nights speaking of eternity, between glass houses, modern architectures and, simple dwelling of compacted earth, between waters streaming and falling and motionless, mountains, between individuality - present – and community - latent., Unexpected but welcome, my film project was born from this geographic and existential, background of my journey., I took chances on myself, started going around and finally got there. I got into the houses, the, places, met people, crossed rivers, climbed mountains with fear, uncertainty, shyness and, respect, but with a clear intention., Stand on the border between letting things happen and looking for them, between discovering,, curious and amazed, and not mystifying the elsewhere, between facing facts and the personal, vision of the place., Finally addressing, again and always, a topic very dear to me: identity., To be or not to be., Estar/ser.
