Synopsis
The Baré have lived for centuries in riverside communities along the Negro river and its tributaries, growing manioc and fishing. Mr. Leopoldo, an elder, keeps alive the indigenous Kariamã ritual and guards the sacred Jurupari instruments, which only those who undergo the initiation ritual are allowed to see. They are barred to women, who can only hear their sound. During the initiation, youngsters learn how to weave and collect materials from the jungle, along with everhtyhing they need to know to live in the forest.
