Synopsis
Short Synopsis “Komomo-maru, a story of two fisherwomen Momo and Komomo” is an award-wining documentary, which tells a story of two fisherwomen, Komomo and Momoko. Komomo grew up by the sea in Kamakura and after graduating high school, she decided to start working as a fisher. She began her training under the supervision of Momoko Iwahashi, who is the first fisherwoman in Kamakura. Komomo gradually learns various fishing methods by working alongside Momoko every morning. However, with half a year of training left, Komomo is suddenly faced with a difficulty, Momoko becomes pregnant and is consequently unable to continue fishing. Komomo therefore becomes a trainee for whitebait fishing at Maeda Fishery. The work is physically demanding, and Komomo faces numerous difficulties being the only female on board. This film portrays the power to endure innate in women, and how Momoko and Komomo overcame difficulties with this power. Although women may not share the same physical abilities as men, with endurance, they are equally capable as fishers.
