Synopsis
There’s hardly anything more eye-catching than a work of art while it’s being made, and this is especially true if it won’t survive much longer after it’s been made. ‘Enter the Balance’ is a short film that’s just about that. It was shot in Brussels in March 2013 and it shows Karo Sarx and Michaël Verheyden in the process of ‘balancing stones’. Every place offers them the opportunity to pile up stones in a manner that seems to defy the laws of gravity. With unlikely piles of stones here and there that wait for the next breeze to fall off, the city appears as if transfigured. But the two artists don’t just pile up stones and modify the city visually. Their creations magnetize people passing in the street: they stop their course for a moment to take part to the construction of these modern-day cairns. ‘Enter the Balance’ invites you to meditate upon, and to feel, the constant exchange between harmony and chaos.
