Synopsis
In 1970 alone, the senator of Brabant, Jean-Florian Collin, had an inventory of 4,339 apartments, 662 flats and over 2,500 garages. In 1969, his business raked in over 2 billion francs in revenue. His dream? To sell an apartment to each Belgian household with an average income. Victim of his own excessiveness, the promoter went under in 1970. The announcement of the news caused turmoil among the population. 2000 small investors, who had gone into debt to purchase an apartment, gathered in Brussels to make their voices heard. The “father of low-cost housing for middle managers” died in 1985, leaving nothing but a few personal belongings. What was his legacy to Belgium? Access to home ownership.
