Synopsis
Gleason's Gym is the oldest active boxing gym in the United States. It is located at Dumbo in the Brooklyn area facing Wall Street., Like New York itself, the gym is a place where races and cultures meet, and people from the most diverse backgrounds and ages come together to work out.Training at Gleason's Gym proposes to portray every-day life in this temple of boxing, that witnessed the history of great boxing and immigration in New York., The documentary will be a study on boxing, both as a sport as well as a mirror of integration in New York by following the stories and challenges of a group of professional athletes from different origins and their trainers, all trying to fulfill their American Dream. It will talk about this sport, tough and technical, violent and graceful all at once, and with an eye to sociology, it will show how totally different people can live together united by their passion for boxing., Many of the people that made this gym famous were immigrants, as many boxers are today. Some of them left their countries only to train at this gym. The boxers of this documentary have different backgrounds, cultures and religions but they train together through friendship and respect for one another, sharing the same dream: becoming a champion. Anyone who has moved to a foreign country striving for a better life or in search of more possibilities, can identify themself in these athletes that literally fight for a living, in the hopes of achieving a dream. The outcome will be an eclectic mosaic of different stories closely intertwined in the gym, where culture and costume come together.
