What do we need to survive? To be happy? Tony, Gwen, and Leah Bella, a family in Upstate New York, imagine new ways to meet their basic needs by embracing an essentialist lifestyle. This film observes a day in the life of this family, including their methods of heating, working, and playing. Without the interruptions of television or the hum of refrigerators, this family connects by washing paint off of canvases and reading books by candlelight. Tony and Gwen work as blacksmiths in the basement of their home while Leah Bella entertains herself with creative activities such as block printing or physical activities such as riding her bike.
