Synopsis
In a remote region of Patagonia, there is a small town of sheep farmers and oil workers where a handful of people speak Afrikaans - a language unique to South Africa. Their songs and food from the far side of the world shows a fierce pride in their culture, but this is now on the brink of extinction - with only a few dozen fluent speakers of the language left in this area. Their story is one of preservation: over a century ago, the Afrikaans-speaking Boers of South Africa lost a war of independence against the British. With few prospects in their home country, 600 families of these descendants of the Dutch boarded ships and sailed to Argentina, to start a new life. Today, most of them have had no connection with South Africa for over three generations, and so their archaic language is dying out along with the oldest members of the community. One family is desperate to reconnect with their motherland to keep their culture alive.
