Synopsis
Bread is a documentary film shot and produced in the island of São Miguel, Azores., More than showing a process, Bread lays us within a process, a sensory process where water, flour and fire are as concrete as they are mysterious. Marked by a strong visual depuration — in which simplicity reveals that which is real as strange — Bread carries us in the abstraction of the perpetual and cyclic movement of the elements, where everything is metamorphosis, where everything is transubstantiation — or, as the miller puts it: Life., (...), Bread is also a film that subtly raises the subject of subsistence in an island located in the middle of the Atlantic ocean, not only from the point of view of it's dependence from the exterior, but also focusing on the islander's relationship with the nature of it's territory., To have Bread in the island one needs ingeniousness, labour... and faith.
