AT THE DOCTOR'S SIDE is a trilogy that follows the lives of six family doctors, four men and two women, in the hidden realm of their surgeries. It focuses on the heart of their work and the complexities of their consultations. In confidence with the film maker, herself a family doctor for twenty years, the exponents tell of the serious crisis in the profession. They also confirm their faith in the essential role played by family doctors. Stephan & Fransiska takes place in the mountain-village surgery of the Zuffereys, two doctors with four children, who have chosen to practise in the Val d’Anniviers. The couple’s work extends from traumatology to pediatry, including internal medicine and mountain-rescue emergencies. Delicate organisational problems arise, especially during the winter season when the population doubles because of the tourists.
