Synopsis
For more than a century, the Union district, located between Tourcoing an Roubaix (norhern France), was a hub of French textile industry. The area was inhabited mainly by factory workers. The remaining industrial activity came to a halt when the carding factory of the Tossée zone closed in 2004.
Now those halcyon times are long gone and the area has been selected for one of the most ambitious urban nevewel projects in France. Soon it shall be accommodating dwellings, pubic facilities and businesses.
Indifferent to the dance of the bulldozers, the district's last remaining café, « Salah's Café » is open every day.
