A follow up to the Épopée collective’s web/cinema project L’état du moment (Hubert Caron Guay, Rodrigue Jean, François Tremblay), L’état du monde is an essential work, co-directed by Jean (Full Blast, Yellowknife) and Caron Guay (Trajets). In this violent, vibrant piece we follow seven residents of Montreal’s Centre-Sud. All live on the margins, all are “known to the police”, all have a burning desire to escape a life scarred by poverty and addiction. The recipient of a special mention at last fall’s Montreal International Documentary Festival, L’état du monde is anything but easy viewing.
