Synopsis
Twenty-one-Twelve the day the world did not end is a project, which was created by Marco Martins in conjunction with Michelangelo Pistoletto. In this collaboration Marco Martins developed a film which reflects upon the subject of the crisis which we are currently living through and the role that art has as a catalyst of transformation within society. Twenty-one’s narrative occurs during the the shortest day of the year, December 20th 2012. According to the Mayan calendar 21st will be the last day on Earth. Despite the inaccuracy of this prediction, this date does mark a historical moment; an extreme apprehension in regards to the future. The film shot in cities such as Lisbon, Tokyo, Mumbai, Biella and Trás dos Montes, accompanies 12 of earths inhabitants throughout their daily routine. As the end of the day draws to a close, the end of a cycle is coming to a close and the necessity for change increases. The sunrises a new hope is born alongside the opportunity to reinvent our-selves.
