Synopsis
This film is a letter from a fictional mother to her yet unborn child, telling him about her home country from the perspective of emigration. This audiovisual essay is inspired in my own experience, and most of its elements are factual.
The film is told entirely in the voice over of the character of an immigrant woman. She narrates the experience of de-attachment and longing by looking back at the last cross-crountry trip footage she had done before leaving in Venezuela, her home-country.
This footage portraits several encounters: from a rural teacher bringing story books to children on the back of donkeys to social justice fighters in Caracas.
I have created this video-letter primarily to pass on to my son the memory of his origins. But as well it is a critical thought about “mi tierra”, “mi gente” seen in the distance of a memory.
