Synopsis
The city is a product of human civilization. If you compared “the city“ symbolically to the human body, then the people living in the city would be like the soul within a body. A city without people is like a body without a soul. And is the life cycle of a city not also comparable to the life cycle of a human being, from birth to ripening to decline and death? China has been a country marked by agriculture for thousands of years. In the last few decades it has transformed itself into an industrial and economic global power. Currently China is marked by a phase of rapidly growing urbanization. Every year about two billion square meters of new building area are completed. Therefore about 40 percent of the worlds cement and steel reserves are used. The film shows through impressive images how two certain cities – and the relation of inhabitants to these cities – are developing in China in times of urban growth.
