Synopsis
Marcianise - tucked in between Naples and Caserta, on a territory notorious for Camorra’s activities and severe environment pollution – has a long tradition of boxing. It started in the 1930’s but it was after WWII, when US Navy servicemen stationed in Naples used to recruit local peasants to fight on ships, that the sport suddenly gained popularity and fired the imagination of local youths. Since then boxing has become almost an obligatory rite of passage for young men in Marcianise who will - at least once in their life - climb into a ring and test their own mettle. This documentary explores the activities carried out over the years by a handful of trainers and passionate supporters who - fired by the commitment to help local youths to become not only first-class fighters but also, or even above all, responsible adults able to steer their lives away from the lure of street life and crime – have spent time and resources to bring up generation after generation of amateur boxers..
