Synopsis
"Jazz, what a wonderful world" explains the mystery behind the success of the 16 piece Catalan 'Big Band' La Locomotora Negra. It follows the story of a classical jazz-swing band, started by 5 young amateurs in 1971, that is not only still united, but growing in numbers after 40 years of playing together. The documentary takes a closer look at this extraordinary phenomenon, looking back on the band’s history and its unique circumstances. With interviews from members of the band and exclusive archive material, the documentary culminates with the highlight of the band’s history: an invitation to play at the famous Liceu Grand Theatre in Barcelona. At the Liceo, the band are accompanied by the celebrated trombone player from America, the late Gene 'Mighty Flea' Conners, an important influence in their history. We discover the secret behind La Locomotora Negra, what makes them successful and their love of sharing music with other people.
