Frank Zappa: A Pioneer of the Future of Music
Director Frank Scheffer
Countries Netherlands
Duration 108 min
Synopsis
"Overview I see all my films as a 'Symphony', a 'composition', a 'Note'.
I think of them as a process of making movies in a more cyclical manner.
I decided that I wanted to make a project on Frank Zappa when, in
2000, the Festival of Netherlands made a focus on his work. I wanted
to return the honour that he gave me in my youth. In 2002, I directed
'Frank Zappa: The Big Note', and in 2007, I completed this television
series in two parts. The first part is a tour through the first twenty
years of his career, and the second as a 'band'. It consists of portraits
of several members of his band through the years, and follows to the
tour of his son Dweezil Zappa called 'Zappa plays Zappa'. I see all the
Zappa-films as a kind of test and part of a process that led, I hope,
towards this feature-length documentary." (Frank Scheffer)
