Synopsis
Luca, the son, reconstructs the life and work of his father, the economist Ezio Tarantelli, who was assassinated by the Red Brigades on March 27, 1985. Luca had little time to get to know his father while he was alive - he was only thirteen when his father was assassinated. He takes us on a journey back to the great economic crisis of the 70s and 80s, as seen through the eyes and the soul of a child in search of his father.
Who was Ezio Tarantelli? He was a passionate and brilliant Italian economist who was enamoured of liberal America. Student and colleague of the Nobel prize winner Franco Modigliani, he was heavily influenced by the political and social movements he experienced while studying and teaching at MIT in the 60s and 70s. The painful and touching journey of his son recreates the figure of a man in search of a New Deal in a period of economic crisis that brought Europe, and Italy, to its knees. His proposal to predetermine inflation by cutting the cost-of-living allowance made him a target for left-wing terrorists who, during the period of their final decline, directed their violence at those of Italy’s most prominent intellectuals who were working to reform their country.
