Stage memories
Director Antoine Janbon
Countries France
Duration 90 min
Synopsis
Going against the political conceptions that shapes the narrow view of “French identity”, stage memories reveals the complex identities of some North African families. The exchange is tough between women who accompanied their husbands in France in the 60’s, and their children. But, thanks to drama workshops, mothers step out of the silence they so frequently had escaped to, and tell their stories of their arrival in France, on stage, sometimes for the first time. Their children express their questions on this past they know so little about. Step by step, a collective memory builds itself and appears on stage; gathering two generations searching for a common identity.
