Synopsis
An unprecedented and authentic view of current Bedouin society. This unusual documentary is the story of the nomadic Bedouins forced by the Israeli government to relinquish their life style and relocate into permanent dwellings. Settling in villages and townships has left large parts of this society in despair, while they try to move forward and progress, they are still held back by desert traditions and also, discrimination.
Under the guidance of Israeli Filmmaker Uri Rosenwaks, four promising Bedouin directors point a camera at themselves and their society to record a ‘self- portrait’ of their own community and its hardships.
Back and Forth brings modern Bedouin life to the screen, in the form of four stories intertwined with rare archived footage, which sheds light on the history of Israel’s Bedouin minority. The film moves back and forth between the personal and the general, the past and present.
