Duration 54 min
Synopsis
Initially the scene of one of the first attempts at developing the aeronautic industry in Italy, Idroscalo di Ostia very quickly became one of many illegal settlements at the confines of the greater metropolitan area of Rome.
Set at the mouth of the Tiber River, less than 30 km from the heart of Rome, Idroscalo has welcomed, during its more than 50 years of existence, thousands of people, Roman and not, expelled from the city and from its economic and civil mechanics. People taking refuge between river and sea, in one of the most enchanting and dilapidated corners of Rome, forgotten by all, lacking every type of utility.
The rediscovered interest of institutions and potential investors from a touristic viewpoint breaks the silence: the shadow has vanished and the population is obligated to prepare to stay in their own home.
Contradictions and internal fractures – which always existed -- emerge, however, as well as the expression of conflicting interests, which cause tension with its relationship to the outside world.
The story of Idroscalo is a common story and its difficult to tell. It is a story of freedom and of marginalization, rich of ambiguity….
