Destroyed by the Second World War, Japan showed solidarity in an effort of modernization which quickly propelled it in the 2nd rank of the economic powers. However, caught up by the crisis of the 90s, Japan knew deep transformations. The mentality especially changed, the youth broke away little by little from the model of its elder sons and looks itself for new horizons, in a more competitive world. Tokyo evolves and metamorphoses in a vertiginous speed. Its youth, in permanent boiling, lives at top speed. Eager for knowledge and freedom, it evolves between modernity and tradition.
Through the glance of four young people «Tokyoïte», "City Lights" reveals us Japan felt by the inside. Between documentary and experimental fiction, this movie proposes a vision of the contemporary Japanese society, and brings us into the heart of the questionings of this youth, that we call today « the Lost Generation ».
