Synopsis
Arsenal explores disused military sites around San Francisco. The video seeks to show the physical condition of these places: what they are, what they are like, in physical terms. Most importantly, the video seeks to allow meaning to emerge ‘of its own accord’ from the footage, if possible. Arsenal is an exploration of video’s relationship with reality and a probing of its ability to let physical reality ‘speak’ for itself. It has been influenced by the ‘realist’ film theorists Siegfried Kracauer and Andre Bazin.
