Synopsis
In Romania, north of Bucharest, the Gypsy families from the D. village go to church for Easter. We expect, most likely, an encounter, characters, a story...which do not come. The religious celebrations are filled with suspense until our hosts sit down at the table… From the beginning, I wanted to make a film with characters. We didn’t succeed. Neither them, nor I. As they often reminded me: “There is a difference between “Us, our Gypsies” and “You, the Frenchman”. Lacking a common ground, I followed them and shared for a while their exultation, their silence and their anger. But soon “our Gypsies” are parting ways and leave us remaining under the impression that we understood only a tiny bit of what they showed us.
