Duration 44 min
Synopsis
Some girls of Cameroon, use Internet for to met a white man. They are not only at the window/frame of the webcam or digital camera, but also of their young lives. Beyond the window they observe the north of the world, where they send, or from where they receive, messages, see men pass through, hoping that amongst them there is one that will help them come down from their window to help them fly north. The myth of women in towers awaiting their knights in shining armour, rich, kind, foreign, is far from dead. In 2008, I created a documentary on the meeting and marriages via mail of Montreal Italians and Italians from the south in the 50s and 60s. Internet therefore has not invented this, and the African women (as others poor women in Latino America or Asia) dream, like Italian women once dreamt before, of emigrating to northern and unknown lands (where a little-known man, if only in her imagination and through a photograph), of a love and of a more comfortable life. But some protagonists of this film, understand that the west or the north world, is not an Eldorado, and they decide to stay in Cameroun and to try to change her life with the art. The film also talk about the story of an ethnographer and filmmaker (me) in his first travel to Africa.
