Synopsis
Antonio Casu, 71 years old, devotes completely to the life of his atypical stable. Here, since 30 years ago, it he's been realising the dream of his childhood: let the children ride the wild horses of the Giara. He now relives every day the successes and the disappointments of the time he was rider at the Sartiglia, the equestrian race of Oristano, while the young people grow and become responsible.
Guided by the history of Antonio, told by himself, we live from the inside the daily life at the Giara Club: its particular form of self-management, the initiations, the trainings, the trips, in a continuous interlacement with the ancient tradition of the Sartiglia.
The movie, entirely set in Sardinia, offers original visions, rich of identity-making values: the transmission of heritage is the fundamental theme.
From a narrative point of view, the inheritance from Antonio to Ignazio, the trainer of the children, is investigated all along the documentary, as the transmission of Ignazio's knowledge to the young people. Visually, the transmission of the tradition among three consecutive generations is represented through the use of various photographic supports: from 50 years old 8mm film to the contemporary images shot in super8, passing through the digital footage and the historical photos.
The documentary ends with a deep immersion in the Sartigliedda, the true test for these young riders, in front of the people of Oristano, that see through them the future of the greatest party, the Sartiglia, to which is tied up the cultural identity of Oristano.
