Synopsis
In 2016, 154 wind turbines, each 145 meters high, about 600 MW capacity, will shape the Shetland Islands landscape. Since the British Government proposed to reduce the country’s carbon emissions to half by 2020, many private companies have taken advantage, developing huge scale renewable energy projects. Viking Energy Ltd, a partnership between Scottish and Southern Energy and the Shetland Island Council, is in charge of the Shetland wind farm project. But the majority of Shetlanders are strictly against a wind farm that they consider dangerous for the Shetland ecosystem.
