The Power of Speech
Director Francisco Hervé
Countries Chile
Duration 75 min
Synopsis
Hardy makes a living selling knickknacks on Santiago’s buses. But in 2005 a Government announcement worries him: we will soon be a “World Class” country, we will have a modern and elegant public transportation system, so we will not tolerate his job any more. He gathers two thousand colleagues and together they struggle to survive modernity. They manage to relate to congressmen and authorities, but their petitions do not achieve real changes. 2007 and Transatiago arrive. Chile doesn’t change it’s precarious image, but Hardy learns that, for better or worse, that precious modernity is not as much about changing reality but about changing the image we sell of it.
