February 1969, the French director Pierre Barouh landed in Rio de Janeiro willing to experience a culture that, despite his limited acquaintance with it, fascinated him intensely. Saravah is the result of several film sessions with predecessors such as Pixinguinha and João da Bahia, then octogenarians, young Maria Bethania (at 21) and Paulinho da Viola, with Baden Powell the link between those far and fundamental generations in Brazilian music.
