Synopsis
The night between January 13 and 14 is when the New Year is celebrated in Macedonia according to the Julian calendar and rituals with masks are performed in many places. At some 100 km to the south of Skopje, in the village of Begnishte, one of those rituals, called Djolomars, is performed by the village community as a way to purge the world and extend its further existence, through a whole range of cult and magic activities.
