Synopsis
The documentary “the sandpit” is about the careless extraction of natural resources from the Amazon rainforest.
This work describes an Amazon rainforest that is also populated by traditional communities other than native Indian tribes.
These communities, such as the maroon community portrayed in the documentary, have also shaped their cultural heritage in interaction with the rainforest.
In this documentary we are shown modernization from the mythological perspective of this community.
The tales of werewolves and ghosts, and then of other mythical characters which appear as the community modernizes, offer a story where the community rationalizes the changes in its environment in a wondrous, unexpected way.
When telling their fantastic stories the villagers not only portray their rich mythology, they also convey their own tenderness and inner beauty.
