There goes my heart
Director John Appel
Countries Netherlands
Duration 59 min
Synopsis
In 1999 the first home for elderly drug addicts in the Netherlands opened its doors in Rotterdam. Its seven inhabitants – four men and three women – belong to the oldest generation of hard drug addicts in town. Some of them have been addicted for more than forty years. The home is their safe haven after a life on the streets. Their social worker is their tower of strength. It's a regular home for the elderly by all standards, while allowing them to continue their drug habits. There goes my heart captures the lives of the seven elderly drug addicts living in their new home. Each and everyone of them has his own moving story to tell. Each and everyone of them has lost something significant: the love of their life, contact with friends and family; and in particular they've lost touch with their own feelings. The documentary portrays the unfulfilled desire of a group of elderly drug addicts; their helpless attachment to the illusion that one day their lives will improve.
