Synopsis
In a world made up of words, what is it like to to grow up and live illiterate? Can we, the literate, imagine that world? We are shown five views on illiteracy: coming from the illiterate, a teacher, a neurologist and from various statistics. To these a 5th view is added, that of Plato. In the village of S. Migule de Machede, near Évora, we go in search of those who do not know how to read or write and those that, at a later stage in life, decide to make up for the schooling that they missed.
