Synopsis
A film revisiting the works of painter, Nikias Skapinakis, from a look at the exhibition “Quartos Imaginários”. It follows up-close the work of one of the most important painters from the second half of the 20th Century – Nikias Skapinakis, from Greek descendency, who started exhibiting in 1948. He is a distant, intellectual classicist, a painter who has worked with all the academic genres, portraits, landscapes, still lifes, nudes – and on all of these genres he left his own, very personal mark, his tenacious melancholy. For an hour, we visit this artist who painted a desolate Lisbon, lacking in Post-War hope. The forgotten city of the allies, the deserted streets and squares in those so-called leaden years of the fifties, absent people from the portraits of the sixties. But a painter who never weakened, an artist who never stopped painting and reinventing himself, hiding and revealing himself. What is a painter in this half century that he lived painting?
