Synopsis
The town of Naryn in Kyrgyzstan is preparing for the 1000th anniversary of the national hero, Manas. An attack by Islam rebels to Kyrgyzstan spoils the intricate preparations. THe work and the dreals of the main characters, projectionists Zarylbeck and Mura, are parallelled with the presend day and the history of Kyrgyzstan in transition. Through them, light is shed on the manupulative effect of movies on the colourful people influenced by socialism, market economy, Islam and nomadic culture.
