Synopsis
10th June, Carcavelos beach. Lots of young people are gathered together under the sun. There are tension and insults. Later the police arrive. At 8pm, televisions show the “arrastão” to the country, a huge crime with hundreds of black assailants, on Portuguse National Day itself. The news becomes a passionate narrative about a country of insecurity and gangs, terror and surveillance. The tide swallows the police's denial of this first version of events as well as various witness statements about it being a “big invention”. The film reviews a crime that never existed, the attitudes of the media in the face of an explosive story and the political and social consequences of a false news report.
