A road-movie in Portugal or a road-movie about Portugal? The film probably exists in the convergence of these two possibilities. Portugal 2004, as the heat of European football dies down. A project: to cross the country from north to south (six hours) and from east to west (one and half hours). Journeys through a land a little smaller than the state of Indiana in the USA. On board the Rocinante, an old Mercedes, we discover (or confirm) an unrecognizable landscape of a territory in the process of great change: motorways that tear up the country creating the false impression of speed, agriculture that is dying out, huge shopping centres. And beneath all this, individual and collective memories are hidden. And a song gets under our skin: “Hide on the promenade, etch a postcard: How I dearly wish I was not here in the seaside town that they forgot to bomb. Come, come, come – nuclear bomb.
