Synopsis
Rebecca Gomperts, invited by Portuguese organizations, carries out an operation as part of the pro-choice struggle in Portugal. As the director of Women on Waves and activist for the abortion cause, her actions continue to create controversy, since they tear up national borders and question pre-established models of intervention in public life. The “abortion boat”, as it is know in the media, made possible by international maritime law, transports a well-equipped gynaecology clinic, taking it to those women who, due to laws prohibiting abortion in their country, resort to doing it illegally. In international waters the boat takes on the laws of the flag of its country of origin, Holland. After visiting Ireland and Poland, the boat navigates Portuguese waters.
