The second part of the trilogy “Profils Paysans”. The rural districts of Lozère, Ardèche and the Upper Loire, situated in the low mountains of central France, are traditionally known for their agriculture. Nowadays, however, impelled by European Union directives for the sector, family-owned farms in the region are progressively being transformed into luxury country homes, whilst the country's agriculture is largely monopolized by big businesses. Young farmers who want to establish themselves in the area are continuously confronted with burocratic and financial barriers. In “Profils Paysans: le Quotidien”, Raymond Depardon pays tribute to the farmers, both men and women, who, in this time of change, continue to sustain their way of life, which would otherwise be forgotten.
