Synopsis
Everyday, at the same time, a hunched-over old lady with a shopping trolley gets on the same train. She gets off the train at a far-away station and starts to walk through the woods. Ana Diomina is as old as the century. As we follow Ana Diomina along the icy streets, her story and that of the Russian twentieth century are gradually revealed before our eyes. They have a story of loyality and betrayal in common. Her husband, a Red Army officer, was arrested all of a sudden in the time of Stalin. Ana searched for her husband for fifteen years, through the twists and turns of the prison system. A brief encounter with the young Czarina in 1915 and her own four-month imprisonment in 1944 are some of the extraordinary events that we discover on this journey through the story of a woman full of spiritual strength.
